How are bamboo straws made?
Our bamboo stalks are cultivated by hand, then it is chopped and filed into the shape of a straw. We believe in zero waste which is why we use the entire bamboo stalk. It is then left to dry in the sun to achieve a well balanced colour. Finally, the straws are sterilised to remove any particles or residue, post which it is shipped away.
Why bamboo straws instead of other alternatives such as metal or paper straws?
Metal straws can take up to 200 years to decompose, they are not biodegradable or organic and they will eventually end up in the ocean or a landfill site. Paper straws aren’t organic, as they use a certain amount of adhesive, also they become soggy after one use.
How long do they last if used regularly? For example, in a bar or a restaurant.
We expect our bamboo straws to withstand many months of continuous use before the need to replace them. With our bamboo grass and wheat straws, it’s a one time use and throw.
What is the length of a bamboo straw?
Each bamboo straw is 8’ inches in length. We use the entire bamboo stalk, thus each straw is a slightly different thickness. Some are great for smoothies and milkshakes, whereas others we prefer for juices and cocktails.
How are wheat straws made?
The process involves harvesting, cutting the stalks, soaking them, sterilising, and finally, air-drying them in the sun. Because the straws are a 100% natural, each straw is of a slightly different thickness. Our wheat straws are easily compostable, vegan friendly, and don’t go soggy in your drinks.
Are wheat straws biodegradable?
We make our straws from wheat stalks, which is a natural byproduct of the wheat grain harvesting process. We developed this concept as we realised that wheat stems are an agricultural waste product, which is usually burnt after the grain is harvested. Hence, we decided to turn this waste into something usable! These wheat straws are easily compostable.
